Characteristics of Love: Love is God’s Word 

Psalms 119:105 (NLT) Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.

Introduction: Calvary greetings to all. Glory be to God Who has brought us to last week of the first month in the year and another week of hearing from the Scriptures.

🙏 The Lord will keep us and our family in His love in Jesus name 

📎 The 36th characteristic of God’s kind of Love this week is:  Love is God’s Word 

❤️ If God’s kind of Love is His Word, and it is established that the Word is Jesus Christ, the Light and the Life; Then, God’s kind of Love is found in Jesus Christ. 

John 1:1-5(NLT) In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and he was God. He was in the beginning with God. He created everything there is. Nothing exists that he didn’t make. Life itself was in him, and this life gives light to everyone. The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

🛑 By interpretation, God’s kind of Love cannot exist in a relationship void of Jesus Christ.  In clear terms, any love that exists without Jesus Christ, the Life and Light, is worldly and valentine’s love with earthly wisdom is full of evil works. 

James 3:15-16 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

❓Do you know why it is commonly said that love is blind?

🛑 Truly, worldly or valentine’s love is blind because it operates in darkness without the light. God’s kind of Love on the contrary operates in the light and can see clearly through darkness by the word. 

Psalms 18:28 For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

🛑 For God’s kind of Love to exist in any marital relationship, both man and the woman MUST have Jesus Christ, the Word, the Light and Life in their lives. 

2 Corinthians 6:14-18 (MSG) Don’t become partners with those who reject God. How can you make a partnership out of right and wrong? That’s not partnership; that’s war. Is light best friends with dark? Does Christ go strolling with the Devil? Do trust and mistrust hold hands? Who would think of setting up pagan idols in God’s holy Temple? But that is exactly what we are, each of us a temple in whom God lives. God himself put it this way: “I’ll live in them, move into them; I’ll be their God and they’ll be my people. So leave the corruption and compromise; leave it for good,” says God. “Don’t link up with those who will pollute you. I want you all for myself. I’ll be a Father to you; you’ll be sons and daughters to me. “The Word of the Master, God.

🛑 Any marital relationship without commitment and total surrender to the Word of God will operate in darkness and surely ends in war and disaster. 

I can unequivocally say that any marriage that ends in disaster is void of the Word in either or both partners where sin has dominion. Unfortunately, partners in marital relationship do not examine themselves by the word but blames the other partner thereby making works of the flesh to thrive and be in control which ultimately ends in death. 

▶️ God sent Jesus Christ the Word to save man from  Adamic or sinful nature that ends in death. But Satan still makes man to refuse Light, the tree of life, the Word and yield to enemy’s enticement with well packaged sin that is pleasant to the eyes like the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. 

John 3:17-20 (NLT) God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it. “There is no judgment awaiting those who trust him. But those who do not trust him have already been judged for not believing in the only Son of God. Their judgment is based on this fact: The light from heaven came into the world, but they loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. They hate the light because they want to sin in the darkness. They stay away from the light for fear their sins will be exposed and they will be punished.

During settlement of quarrel among a Christian couple, the wife accused her husband of nocturnal movements in night clubs while the husband accused his wife of cursing and insulting him. Both blamed one another without examining each other’s misdemeanor by God’s word to direct their path.

❓If God’s kind of Love is the Word that is a lamp and a path to life, how acquainted are we as Christian couples to the word of God? Individual is in the best position to answer the question. Result comes during trials of faith in our marriages. 

❓What practical steps are we to take as we walk in love this week?

▶️ Commit to reading the Bible every day. Find a devotional book or other resource that will give you some guidance. If  your spouse is open to it, see if he/she will commit to daily Bible reading with you. Begin submitting each area of your life to its guidance and start building on the rock.

✍ Finally brethren, God’s kind of Love is NOT blind and can only exist where there is constant study of the word for light and guidance that brings good success. An unsuccessful Christian marriage is void of the word of God that is His Love. 

Joshua 1:8 (MSG) And don’t for a minute let this Book of The Revelation be out of mind. Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you’ll get where you’re going; then you’ll succeed.
