Characteristics of Love: Love seeks to understand
Proverbs 3:13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
Proverbs 3:13(NLT) Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding.
Proverbs 3:13(GNS) Happy is anyone who becomes wise—who comes to have understanding.
Proverbs 3:13(MSG) You’re blessed when you meet Lady Wisdom, when you make friends with Madame Insight.
Introduction: I salute everyone who looks forward to weekly post from Speaking Scriptures on this blog. Glory be to God who kept us to see another week and the new month.
🙏 I ceaselessly pray that God will fill us with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding as we study at His feet in Jesus name.
📎 The 18th characteristic of God’s kind of Love this week is: Love seeks to understand
To seek means is to find. Scriptures speak concerning getting wisdom and understanding.
Proverbs 4:5,7 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
❓What then is understanding?
Job 28:28(NLT) And this is what he says to all humanity: ‘The fear of the Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding.’”
Understanding is to forsake or depart from evil.
“Love seeks to understand” therefore means that; God’s kind of Love seeks or finds ways to forsake or depart from evil.
Reading through Job 28, a vital question is raised concerning where wisdom and understanding can be found.
Job 28:12 But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?
🛑 It is from the subsequent verses that we know wisdom and understanding cannot come from education, riches and worldly experiences. ONLY in God can wisdom and understanding be found.
Job 28:20–23(NLT) “But do people know where to find wisdom? Where can they find understanding? It is hidden from the eyes of all humanity. Even the sharp-eyed birds in the sky cannot discover it. Destruction and Death say, ‘We’ve heard only rumors of where wisdom can be found.’ “God alone understands the way to wisdom; he knows where it can be found,
Therefore, wisdom; which is the fear of God, and understanding which is forsaking or departing from evil can ONLY be found in God alone.
Wisdom and understanding are siamese twins; anyone who fears God will depart from evil and whosoever depart from evil fears God.
📌 Without God through Jesus Christ given by God; NOBODY with morals can depart from evil. To believe that human righteousness can obtain understanding or departure from evil is fallacy. In fact, Destruction and Death say, ‘We’ve heard only rumors of where wisdom can be found.’
🛑 When you hear that anyone has moral though NOT a Christian, therefore he or she can be married or trusted; “Destruction and Death” say it is rumours as both have ruined people with such belief. “God alone understands the way to wisdom; he knows where it can be found. That only way is through our Lord, Jesus Christ as revealed in the Scriptures.
Titus 3:4-5(NLT) But—When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.
🛑 Standing on this truth, “Love seeks to understand” therefore means that; God’s kind of Love seeks to depart from evil. This attribute can only be found in anyone dwelling in God because God is love❗
1 John 4:7-8(NLT) Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
❓How do we then know we have God or God’s kind of Love that produces wisdom (fear of God) and understanding (departure from evil) dwells in us?
🛑 By keeping and walking in His commandments.
1 John 2:4-6(NLT) If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.
❓Do you really want wisdom and understanding?
Hear what Scriptures speak to God’s chosen ones dwelling among corruptible inhabitants of the earth.
Deuteronomy 4:5-6 Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the Lord my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it. Keep therefore and do them ; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
🛑 Anywhere you find yourself on the face of the Earth, keeping and doing God’s word is a Must to seek understanding or departing from evil.
Starting from our home, as charity begins at home, we must continuously seek understanding (departing from evil) in dealing with our spouses.
Constant falling into secret sins; such as adultery, marital violence and abuse, and exhibiting all manner of enjoyable works of the flesh that are not obvious is an indication of lack of understanding.
Proverbs 9:17-18 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.
Dealing with your spouse with understanding will keep you from Destruction and Death that dwell in hell.
Abigail dealt with Nabal, her husband with understanding and she escaped Destruction and Death.
1 Samuel 25:3 Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb.
🛑 It is therefore not an excuse for any spouse to abandon seeking for understanding (departure from evil) just because your husband or wife does not seek for understanding. All that is required of you is to pray and intercede for your spouse like Abigail did before David, then leave the rest for God who is a Righteous judge.
📣 God’s kind of Love seeks to understand or depart from evil against the beloved.
❓What practical steps are we to take as we walk in love this week?
Prepare a special dinner at home, just for the two of you. The dinner can be as nice as you prefer. Focus this time on getting to know your spouse better, perhaps in areas you’ve rarely talked about. Determine to make it an enjoyable evening for you and your mate.
✍ Finally brethren, sin darkens the heart to prevent the light of God from getting understanding in marital relationship and every spheres of life. You cannot afford to be alienated from God in this perverse generation. Walk daily with God by His words to get understanding, that is departing from evil.
Ephesians 4:17-18 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
