The Birthright
Genesis 25:29-33
One day when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau arrived home from the wilderness exhausted and hungry. Esau said to Jacob, “I’m starved! Give me some of that red stew!” (This is how Esau got his other name, Edom, which means “red.”) “All right,” Jacob replied, “but trade me your rights as the firstborn son.”
“Look, I’m dying of starvation!” said Esau. “What good is my birthright to me now?” But Jacob said, “First you must swear that your birthright is mine.” So Esau swore an oath, thereby selling all his rights as the firstborn to his brother, Jacob.
What is Birthright? It is the right of the firstborn.
Gen.25:31; All right,” Jacob replied, “but trade me your rights as the firstborn son.
The right of anyone born again or has ccepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour is embedded in Jesus Christ. This right is the passport (an identity)to the Kingdom of God. Anyone who dies without Birthright will Not enter into the Kingdom of God but ends up in Hell.
Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Hebrews 12:23 You have come to the assembly of God’s firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is the judge over all things. You have come to the spirits of the righteous ones in heaven who have now been made perfect.
Because man is born into trouble; (Job 5:7 People are born for trouble as readily as sparks fly up from a fire. ) The right of anyone born of God or born again is to overcome the troubled world.
1 John 5:4-5 (NLT) For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
For every child of God, Satan targets that right to overcome.
Apostle Paul told the Church at Corinth;
2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent.
Paul warned Christians to watch out for Satan’s devices who can use even unforgiveness to remove our right.
2 Corinthians 2:10-11 When you forgive this man, I forgive him, too. And when I forgive whatever needs to be forgiven, I do so with Christ’s authority for your benefit, so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.
Once the Devil succeeds in removing Birthright of a child of God, that person cannot be partaker of God’s blessings and is doomed forever. That is why Birthright is the passport to the Kingdom of God.
Hebrews 12:16-17 Make sure that no one is immoral or godless like Esau, who traded his birthright as the firstborn son for a single meal. You know that afterward, when he wanted his father’s blessing, he was rejected. It was too late for repentance, even though he begged with bitter tears.
Satan targets Birthright through temptations. It is within our God’s given ability for every child of God to resist temptations from the Devil, thereby protecting his/her Birthright.
James 1:13-15 And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.
There’s hope for anyone without Birthright (not born again) than for the anyone who lost the Birthright.
2 Peter 2:20-22 And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before. It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life. They prove the truth of this proverb: “A dog returns to its vomit.” And another says, “A washed pig returns to the mud.”
Life Enticements and desires that can take away Birthright
1. Enticement of Appetite (craving). Genesis 25:29-33
2. Enticement during hunger. Matthew 4:2-3
3. Enticement of Silver and Gold. Joshua 7:20-21
4. Enticement of Women. 1 Kings 11:1,4, Judges 16:19
5. Enticement of turning Church to business. 2 Kings 5:15-16
6. Enticement of worldly pleasures. Jeremiah 35:5-6
7. Enticement of worldly power and honour. Luke 4:5-7
Finally, Hebrews 12:16 says; Make sure that no one is immoral or godless like Esau, who traded his birthright as the firstborn son for a single meal.
Immorality and godlessness, which is life without constant fellowship with God through Jesus Christ removes Birthright of a believer in this troubled world.
If you die without Birthright, you go straight to Hell, if Jesus comes for believers (Rapture) and you don’t have your Birthright, you will be left behind.
Whatever it takes, let us guard our Birthright, which is the passport or identification of citizenship to the Kingdom of God. You can be a Pastor on earth without Birthright or identity of Christ. Hear what Jesus said in Luke 13:24-27
“Work hard to enter the narrow door to God’s Kingdom, for many will try to enter but will fail. When the master of the house has locked the door, it will be too late. You will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Lord, open the door for us!’ But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’ Then you will say, ‘But we ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’
And he will reply, ‘I tell you, I don’t know you or where you come from. Get away from me, all you who do evil.’
Examine yourself daily if you still have Birthright, and you can get it back through genuine repentance before death or appearance of Jesus Christ our Saviour, otherwise, it will be too late after death or at the appearance of Jesus Christ.
