Where is your Treasure?

Where is your Treasure

Matthew 6:19-21 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Matthew 6:19-21(NLT) “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

Introduction: The Devil speaks through fiery darts into the hearts of believers while the Word of God through faith quenches every fiery darts against our souls.

Ephesians 6:16-17 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Please note, death is NOT the end to trouble on earth BUT a transition to Eternal Life or Damnation.

We shall all finish strong and end well with Jesus Christ in Jesus name. I thank God for consistent reader on this platform who reads, studies and meditates on the word of God to receive Faith by the word in order to quench devilish suggestions and thoughts against the will of God for our lives.

🙏 I pray that we will never succumb to enemy’s suggestions against God’s instructions in Jesus name.

This week, as we continue listening to Jesus from the Mount, we should ask ourselves; Where is my Treasure?. It is very important to know where actually your Treasure is because that is where your heart will be.
Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

Our hearts is the target of the Devil. If your heart is on the things of this world, Satan will get you; but if your heart is on things of God, Satan can never get you. That’s why Jesus said in our text for today;

Remember,  Satan’s mission is to steal, kill and destroy lives but Jesus Christ came to give life unto everyone whose heart is given to Jesus Christ.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Where is your Treasure?

If you greedily follow the dictates of this world in acquisition of wealth and power, you will not only have trouble, whole family will be partakers in the trouble.

🗣 Proverbs 15:27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live. NLT version says; Greed brings grief to the whole family, but those who hate bribes will live.

Those whose heart is on acquiring everything in this world to the detriment of God’s word will not be satisfied and at the end faced disappointment and vanity.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.

▶️ It is Foolishness that makes Christians to get riches without righteousness or right standing with God because those treasures will be left behind without eternal life with God.

Jeremiah 17:11 As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.

Loving money more than life in Christ makes Believers to abandon faith in God and partake in worldly sorrows.

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Those who are rich in this world and Not rich towards God live miserable life and Scripture says their treasures will testify against them on judgment day.

James 5:1-3(NLT) Look here, you rich people: Weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you.  Your wealth is rotting away, and your fine clothes are moth-eaten rags. Your gold and silver are corroded. The very wealth you were counting on will eat away your flesh like fire. This corroded treasure you have hoarded will testify against you on the day of judgment.

❓Are you rich toward God or Self?

Luke 12:20-21 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

When treasures are acquired unjustly, the just shall take it over eventually, as Christians, how do we acquire our treasure?

Job 27:16-17 Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay; He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

❓Do you know that when hearts are set on riches, it will be very difficult to follow Jesus Christ? That was why Jesus told His disciples that a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of God after He counselled a rich young ruler.

Matthew 19:21-23 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Realising that riches and earthly positions are not forever will make genuine Christians to serve God at all cost while there is still breath.

Proverbs 27:24 For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?

Having revelational knowledge that whatever that is acquired must be left behind without input or control on how it is managed makes Christians to think more of things of eternal values and services unto God.

Ecclesiastes 2:18(NLT) I came to hate all my hard work here on earth, for I must leave to others everything I have earned.

Knowing that riches can disappear anytime for whatever reasons makes Christians to trust in God more than riches.

Proverbs 23:5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

If the wicked or unbelievers know that wealth can go suddenly, they will not be cajoled to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

Job 27:19 (NLT ) The wicked go to bed rich but wake to find that all their wealth is gone.

As a pastor, I have seen former Wealthy people coming to church probably to recover their wealth back or for eternity with God. This will be determined by continuity and faithfulness in the service of God.

My fellow co-labours in the vineyard of God, let us always remember what Paul told Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

Finally brethren,  let us ask ourselves; Where is my Treasure? Again I leave you with the charge to Timothy by the living Word of God as pertaining to riches in this world.

1 Timothy 6:17-19(NLT) Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.

The gift for every believer from God is riches and wealth to enjoy through Christ with peace that passes all understanding in the heart.

Ecclesiastes 5:19-20 Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God. For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.

There is an evil disease also for anyone especially a believer who receives riches, wealth and honour from God but no power to eat fruits of his/her labour

Ecclesiastes 6:1-2 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is common among men: A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.

🙏 Strangers will not take over our belongings due to carelessness in Jesus name.

Let us lay up for ourselves Treasures in heaven where Satan can never get to. Let us be more committed unto God while we are still alive.
