Danger of Anger

Danger of Anger

Matthew 5:21-22(NLT) You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’  But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell.

Introduction: I bless the Name of the Lord for another opportunity to share His words among the living.

🙏 I pray that all of us will be doers of His words and not hearers only in Jesus.

🟢 There was restitution form given to graduating students in Believers class before baptism in those days.  A portion in the form requests for weaknesses which you want to deal with in conjunction with Holy Spirit. I used to collate the forms and write out those weaknesses for Believers class teachers to counsel students individually during vigil before baptism.
In all the years spent for this exercise, I found that 99.99% included ANGER in the form.
Today, we are looking at Danger in Anger as taught by the Master Himself to Disciples on the Mountain under BEATITUDES.

❓Do you notice that when Jesus Christ spoke on God’s commandments on Murder, He then spoke authoritatively on the root of Murder “But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment!”
In other words, Jesus is saying if you’re angry with someone, you are in danger of committing Murder.

🛑 The first Murder that took place after creation of Man originated from Anger. God asked the murderer why he was angry and warned him that sin was at his door!!!! He needed to control his anger but he didn’t yield to God’s counsel. Cain became the first Murderer.
Genesis 4:3-7(NLT) When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the lord. Abel also brought a gift—the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The lord accepted Abel and his gift, but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected.  “Why are you so angry?” the lord asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”

🛑 Since all of us are subject to Anger, God is warning us the way He warned Cain the first Murderer; “then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”

🛑 As long as we dwell in this Adamic nature, we are bound to get Angry but closer walk with God through the Holy Spirit will enable us to control Anger that operates through the Flesh. Inability to yield to the control of the Holy Spirit will make Flesh to control us thereby allowing the Devil to take over.

Ephesians 4:26-27(NLT) And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.

🛑 The main reason why we must be different as Believers from others in controlling Anger, is the renewal of our minds through constant fellowship with the Holy Spirit.

👂 Hear what the Scripture says in Ephesians 4:21-24 before the counsel on Anger in verses 26-27 quoted above.
Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him,  throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.  And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.

🛑 It is no more news that husbands kill wives and wives kill husbands. Both professed love for one another before and during marriage.

What can then propel hatred that leads to Murder?

1️⃣  Inability to cease from Anger.
Psalm 37:8(NLT) Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper— it only leads to harm.

2️⃣. Short-tempered engineers foolishness
Proverbs 14:17a(NLT) Short-tempered people do foolish things.
I have seen wife burning new shirts of the husband and breaking television and valuables in anger.

3️⃣. Inability to control Anger
Proverbs 19:11(NLT) Sensible people control their temper;  they earn respect by overlooking wrongs.

4️⃣. Hasty reactions to offence.
Ecclesiastes 7:9 Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

5️⃣.  Filthy and abusive communications
Matthew 5:22(NLT) But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell.
Colossians 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
The rule between me and my wife before marriage that none of us should curse or pass abusive words in any circumstances has helped tremendously in our marital relationship of almost thirty-two years despite storms of misunderstanding.

6️⃣. Quick to reply offensive words.
This is common among women. They used to say; “È mi kò kí ñse omo losílé lo gbèsì wá” ( Am not a child that will go home to receive reply) they will give hot reply immediately even to their husbands.
James 1:19(NLT) Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.

7️⃣. Constant  quarrels.
Proverbs 18:6 Fools’ words get them into constant quarrels; they are asking for a beating.

Conclusion: The root of Murder is anger that generates hatred. Sprit filled and led Christian can control Anger which is one of the works of the flesh.
Do not allow the flesh to make you speak evil, curse and fight anyone.
Jesus said; but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
Titus 3:2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.
No man being controlled by the flesh can make Heaven. This is the Danger of Anger as taught by the Master.

Romans 8:6-8(NLT) So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.  For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.

✋ Maranatha.
