Flipping with the Sacred

Matthew 7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
Matthew 7:6(NLT) “Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.
Matthew 7:6(MSG) “Don’t be flip with the sacred. Banter and silliness give no honor to God. Don’t reduce holy mysteries to slogans. In trying to be relevant, you’re only being cute and inviting sacrilege.

Introduction: Calvary salute to all. We thank God for His Mercy and Grace to see another week. I pray that God will continue to keep us and our family in Jesus name.

Looking again at Beatitudes for disciples of Christ from sermon on the Mount,  I want to discuss my understanding of this verse 6 from Message version. You are also free to contribute as Holy Spirit gives understanding for someone to learn from what Scriptures speak.

To Flip with Sacred means to be unserious with what is Sacred or Holy such as God’s word. There are churhes that invite jesters to the house of God and throw Banter by teasing and joking about God’s word and Christian tenets in a silly way making members to laugh.

You will observe that bringing jesters to church increases attendance and we can be easily deceived that it is a form of evangelism to win souls for Christ. I can boldly say that no converts with godly sorrow that brings genuine repentance to salvation can be gotten during jesters ministration only converts with worldly sorrow can be gotten under such unserious ministration. This worldly sorrow will lead to spiritual death.

2 Corinthians 7:10(NLT) For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.

Bringing unserious atmosphere to the church is giving what is holy to the dogs or flipping with the Sacred according to message version. That is why many unbelievers attack the Holy words of God.

Scriptures speak to warn Ephesians believers against jesting and foolish talking that debases God’s word.

Ephesians 5:4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

Now, looking at KJV version of our text;
Matthew7;6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

❓Who are the dogs? They are simply unbelievers who are still under the power of the wicked one and live in sin without Christ in their lives. Allowing them to die without Jesus Christ the Word of God will separate them from God eternally.

Revelation 22:15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Dogs also refer to evil workers that are in the body of Christ who can negatively influence other Christians like the mixt multitude (Egyptians) that went with Israelites from Egypt. These Egyptians influenced the Israelites negatively in the wilderness and caused children of God to perish.

Philippians 3:2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.
Message version of our text says; “Don’t be flip with the sacred. Banter and silliness give no honor to God. Don’t reduce holy mysteries to slogans. In trying to be relevant, you’re only being cute and inviting sacrilege.

❓Do you now see why we should not flip with holy words of God?
1️⃣ It gives no honour to God

2️⃣ Holy words that is meant to change lives will be reduced to slogan among unbelievers without seriousness.

3️⃣ In trying to be relevant and look cute or attractive, there will be invitations of sacrilege or disrespect in the church and body of Christ.

No wonder the Church is full of Dogs and swines in this last days as written in 2 Timothy 3:1-3 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

We no longer value nor dispense God’s word with seriousness it requires whereas God’s word is of greater value that must be gotten at all cost if we want His kingdom.
Matthew 13:45-46 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

Finally brethren,  as we meditate on this week’s Scriptures, let us determine to take God’s word seriously. To prevent attacks and negative influence from unbelievers around us, we must Not flip or throw Holy words of God to them in an unserious manner.

If Dogs (unbelievers) around us see us as one of them in trying to be relevant, due to how we behave, what we say or do as Christians, then there is need for self-examination otherwise, benefits meant for the children of God will be eluded as God will categorise worldly conformist among His Disciples as Dogs.

Matthew 15:25-26 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.
