Our Bodies

Our Bodies

Leviticus 19:28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.

Introduction: Glory be to God as we witness the last week in the second month and another opportunity to learn at His feet.

πŸ™ All strange things about us shall fade away in Jesus name.

πŸ€” In the course of family devotion,  we learnt that God cares about our bodies. We learnt that God forbid tattoos on His chosen ones. We often think that as Christians, what is done to our bodies will not be there after receiving new bodies at resurrection since old bodies will turn to dust as we put on indestructible new bodies.

❓Do you know that the nail marks still appeared on the resurrected body of Jesus Christ?

John 20:24-27 (NLT) One of the disciples, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), was not with the others when Jesus came. They told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he replied, “I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side.” Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them. He said, ” Peace be with you”. Then he said to Thomas, ” Put your finger here and see my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe! “

πŸ›‘ Point of observation for me is that whatever we do to our physical bodies will be there for whoever that is fortunate to receive resurrected body,  though far better than being without resurrected body. I then said that those with tribal marks will still have them in resurrected body.

πŸ›‘ What we should be concerned about is what we intentionally do to our bodies in the name of religion, fashion, beauty or what is trending in the world.

▢️ Some are deceived to cut themselves for religious sacrificial purposes like the prophets of Baal.

1 Kings 18:28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.

πŸ›‘ Only those under the bondage of Satan cut themselves in pain for whatever reason like the mad man of Gadarenes.

Mark 5:5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

❓What makes someone already created beautiful to be covetous on worldly idols and properties of this world?

▢️ Any Christian who add tattoos to God’s given skin has stolen worldly idols like Rachel.

Genesis 29:17, 31:19 (AMP) Leah’s eyes were weak and dull looking, but Rachel was beautiful and attractive. Now Laban had gone to shear his sheep [possibly to the feast of sheepshearing], and Rachel stole her father’s household gods.

πŸ›‘ If the reason of redesigning body is to appear beautiful; such as redesign of body features;

1️⃣ It will melt away like vapour

Psalms 39:11 When with rebukes You correct man for iniquity, You make his beauty melt away like a moth; Surely every man is vapor

2️⃣ The beauty shall be consumed in the grave

Psalms 49:14 Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.

3️⃣ Uncontrollable adorning of body by a beautiful person is likened to a decorated pig.

Proverbs 11:22(NLT) A woman who is beautiful but lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig’s snout.

4️⃣ Looking charming is deceptive and beauty does not last long but fear of God prevents anyone from body reconstructions.

Proverbs 31:30 (NLT) Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.

5️⃣ Beauty without fear of God displaces anyone from position of power and authority in the scheme of God.

Esther 1:11-12 To bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair to look on. But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him.

6️⃣ Esther was beautiful and she did not add anything apart from what Hegai recommended before appearing before the king and she received favour.

Esther 2:7,15  And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took for his own daughter. Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.

πŸ›‘ Body can be disfigured by worldly appetites. Daniel and other Hebrew men in Babylon were not attracted by king’s meat but looked better.

Daniel 1:15 And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat.

▢️ Some people who succumbed to cosmetic surgery for beatification are either dead or deformed in the process.

πŸ›‘ God warns His children against disfiguring their bodies.

Leviticus 19:28 (AMP) You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead nor print or tattoo any marks upon you; I am the Lord.

πŸ›‘ We are children of God and should NOT be conformed to traditions of this world.

Deuteronomy 14:1(AMP) YOU ARE the sons of the Lord your God; you shall not cut yourselves or make any baldness on your foreheads for the dead,

πŸ›‘ Our Bodies belong to Christ and should NOT be joined with Babylon, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH according to

Revelation 17:5.

1 Corinthians 6:15(NLT) Don’t you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? Should a man take his body, which belongs to Christ, and join it to a prostitute? Never!

✍ Finally brethren, we are to keep our spirits, souls and bodies blameless until we see our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:23(NLT) Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until that day when our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.
